Securing Your Wedding Registrar

Securing Your Wedding Registrar

at Foxtail Barns Wedding Venue

Following your wonderful decision to marry at Foxtail Barns, the next step is to confirm the legal side of things. You will need to give notice of marriage and secure a Wedding Registrar in plenty of time. Notice can be given from 12 months before your wedding but leave it no later than 28 days prior.

Giving Notice

You can give notice of your marriage by requesting an appointment at your local register office. This is where you will legally state your intention to marry. This must be done at the office within the district of where you have lived for at least the past 7 days. This is still the case if you live outside of Foxtail Barns’ registration district.

You will be asked to discuss personal details about yourself and your partner during the appointment. However, don’t worry as this is just to establish that you can legally marry.

Your Appointment

You will need provide personal documentation as part of this appointment. It is always worth contacting the register office to double check what documents you will need to bring along. These may include things like your proof of address or passports. These are important to remember as should you provide insufficient documentation; you will need to pay for a second appointment.

After the appointment you will sign a legal notice of marriage which will be displayed publicly for 28 days in the Register Office. The public can then make it known if they think you should not marry for any legal reason.

Securing Your Wedding Registrar

The sooner you can secure your Wedding Registrar, the better, as they only have limited availability. This can be organised by contacting the Staffordshire Registration Office and checking their availability on your wedding date online. You can then request your ceremony time which you will have already established with the Foxtail Barns Events Team.

Once your wedding date is within 2 years away, you can then secure your registrar. Should your wedding be over 2 years away, it’s worth setting a little reminder for when you’re within that window.

Organising your ceremony time early on is important as the rest of your schedule will depend on this timing. You must also ensure that your registrar is able to travel to Foxtail Barns to carry out your ceremony.

Before The Big Day

Following your registrar booking, they will provide you with a booklet of readings that you can include in your ceremony. As a wedding is a legally binding ceremony, many aspects must always stay the same. For example, in a non-religious civil ceremony, you would not be able to include religious wording or hymns. However, you are more than welcome to include your own vows or a personal reading. Any additions to the ceremony are always best discussed with the registrar beforehand.

Your registrar is also a useful key player to help you make announcements during the ceremony. Many couples ask their registrar to inform guests of the next part of the schedule. These can be key moments such as guiding them into the confetti walk.

On The Big Day

We completely understand that organising a wedding ceremony is very unfamiliar territory for most people. So we are often asked if there is a ceremony rehearsal prior to the wedding. As the registrars are usually so busy with weddings, they are unable to offer a rehearsal. However, they will always meet with you individually around 30 minutes before to ensure you’re both happy with the plan.

They will re-confirm with you the order of ceremony and all reading choices. This way, you can be sure that your ceremony plays out exactly as you have envisioned.
